The sun’s shining, the beach is beckoning … summer has officially arrived! And when it comes to summer holidays, Karl is a creature of habit — for over 10 years he’s headed to the French Riviera to vacation in style.
And now you can also visit all of his hot spots! Famous French title Madame Figaro recently caught up with Karl for an exclusive interview about his favourite places on the Cote d’Azur.
“It’s the heart of Saint Tropez, and Jean Robert is its soul. We always go there in the evening, before or after dinner, and sometimes even for dinner. I order a tea or a fresh juice and sit at the back of the terrace, a bit hidden. I like the people there and the atmosphere of the pier — it’s the best spot in town.”
Quai Jean Jaurès, Place aux Herbes.
“There is no other parfumerie — not even in Paris — that carries so many products and that has an equally lovely team. You’ll probably find some of the same products as in the big name stores, but here everything is lovely. I buy my creams here, like La Prairie, sunscreen and gifts for my house guests.”
19, Quai de Suffren.
“I really like this brand; they have the best bathing suits and shorts. I collaborated with them this summer to design eight pieces of clothing for men and women, inspired by the Riviera and its Azur blue.”
9, Rue Jean Mermoz,
“I love this restaurant — its Italian cuisine and its terrace. Not only is the food delicious, but at the soul of it all is Jean Roch and his welcoming personality and kindness. The club is great and holds a wonderful mix of people.”
Résidence du Nouveau Port et 1 Passage du Port.
“A bar-club-restaurant on the pier. I typically go before or after dinner, for the music, the atmosphere and the Cabaret-style shows.”
22, Quai Jean Jaurès.
La Place des Lices
“It’s the ‘Place de la Concorde’ of Saint-Tropez. You cannot miss it, even if you don’t like bocce ball, which is played there. At its newspaper stand is where I buy most of my magazines.”
“I love this museum. It’s located on the pier in an former 16th century chapel; they always hold great exhibitions.”
2, rue de l’Annonciade, Place Georges Grammont.
“La Réserve Ramatuelle is also my summer residence. I cannot say anything bad about La Réserve — it’s perfection! I’ve been staying there for more than 10 years now, the place is gorgeous. The thing I like the most is the panoramic view of the sea. Plus, the restaurant’s menu is very healthy, which is perfect for me!”
736, Chemin des Crêtes.
Lunch at the beach
“It’s the most cosmopolitan beach club, with the best crudité platter you’ll ever taste, and the best sea bass in the region! It’s really THE beach restaurant to visit. I am a fan of the staff and the atmosphere, especially the orchestra that goes from table to table.”
43, Boulevard Patch, Ramatuelle.
