A memorial event was held for Karl Lagerfeld on June 20 at the Grand Palais in Paris, to celebrate his life and pay tribute to his extraordinary legacy.
Karl was one of the most influential and iconic designers of the 21st century, and a universal symbol of style. Driven by an inexhaustible sense of passion, he was curious, cultured and intensely creative.
The joyful event was attended by over 2,000 people from around the world whose lives have, in some way, been forever touched by Karl. The guest list included his friends and companions from various realms of society and life, including Anna Wintour, Carla Bruni Sarkozy, Claudia Schiffer, Emmanuelle Alt, Valentino, Brigitte Macron, Gigi Hadid, Stella McCartney and Olivia Palermo.
Reflecting Karl’s love for the creative arts, the show included lively performances by Pharrell Williams, Tilda Swinton, Helen Mirren, Cara Delevingne, pianist Lang Lang and violinist Charlie Siem.
The exclusive tribute was held at the Grand Palais — a renowned location with significant personal importance to Karl. Throughout the span of his life and career, he hosted countless fashion shows and events in the historic space.
The event was creatively directed by Robert Carsen, the acclaimed curator, theater and opera director.
